ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Mark Towns is a virtuoso trailblazer of guitar-based instrumental Afro-Caribbean Jazz, composing and performing music which blurs the lines between Latin, Flamenco, Brazilian, Salsa, Funk and Fusion. His groove is inspired by Latin Jazz masters Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri and Cal Tjader. Mark’s arrangements combine Jazz and Flamenco with the down-to-earth feel of Blues and Rock from his Texas roots to create something brand new. As Down Beat Magazine wrote, “Mark Towns isn’t just playing Latin Jazz, he’s making sure it continues to evolve.” Mark leads his own critically-acclaimed bands, Latin Jazz, Flamenco Fusion and Brazilliance. He also finds time to perform and/or record with Rickie Lee Jones, Cybill Shepherd, Chaka Khan, Marth Reeves and the Vandellas, Poncho Sanchez, among so many others. Check out his website for a full list www.marktowns.com. He has appeared on Emmy-winning TV shows “Veep” with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and “Desperate Housewives” with Terry Hatcher. As award-winning music critic Shea Serrano observed, “Put a guitar in his hands and Mark Towns is otherworldly.”
Ray Wilson is a Houston-based jazz guitarist of the highest caliber. With his signature cool and straight-ahead jazz style, he creates an atmosphere of effortless sophistication. His music is both captivating and timeless. His career spans national and international performances – with critically acclaimed appearances in Salt Lake City, and Hiroshima, Japan. He has shared the stage with legends such as Mitzi Gaynor, Debbie Reynolds, Robert Goulet, Marilyn Maye, Carol Lawrence, Rosemary Clooney and Arnette Cobb. He has also performed with the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet Orchestra, Houston Corale, Houston Symphony Pops and Theatre under the Stars. www.raywilson.org
