Mark Towns' new release, "Flamenco Fusion," is an exotic mix of Latin Jazz guitar backed by a variety of Afro Caribbean rhythms & more. Featuring the virtuoso guitar work of Mark Towns on acoustic and electric Spanish guitar, with legendary jazz great Hubert Laws on flute (on Vista, Desert Flower, and Wind on the Mountain), Jorge Cro Cro Orta & Douglas Guevarra on percussion, Todd Harrison on drums (on Never Fear), and Cuban pianist Rainel Pino. "Flamenco Fusion" is a treat for your dancing and listening pleasure! The album contains 12 tracks in all (56 minutes of music), featuring 6 brand new tunes along with 6 hits from Mark's first two CD's ("Desert Flower" & "Rainy Night" were previously released on the 2004 release "Passion." "Merengue Gitano," "Corriente," & "Salamanca" were previously released the 2000 release "Flamenco Jazz Latino," as was the tune "Wind on the Mountain," which, at just over 10 minutes in length, made it too long to be available as an individual download on iTunes. The tune in it's entirety is available here now for the first time as an individual download.)

Mark Towns "Essence" is the sound of mesmerizing virtuosity from one of the world's leading exponents of Latin guitar. A departure from Mark's Latin Jazz group recordings ("Flamenco Jazz Latino" and "Passion"), "Essence" is a collection of all new mellow romantic guitar pieces (solo, duo, & trio) designed for relaxation and reflection. The album features 13 all new tunes, clocking in at just under an hour of Spanish-influenced, spellbinding magic. Multicultural references, free improvisation, Flamenco textures, and hints of psychedelia weave their way subtly through the mix, creating an elegantly mystic sonic landscape. As Houston Press observed, "Put a guitar in his hands and Mark Towns is otherworldly."

"Passion" by Latin Jazz guitarist Mark Towns features flute legend Hubert Laws along with percussionist Jorge Orta from Grupo Niche and Cuban piano wizard Rainel Pino. Continuing in the vein of his 2000 release, "Flamenco Jazz Latino," Towns presents 8 new original compositions (plus a Latin remake of the Average White Band classic, "Pick Up The Pieces") featuring his melodic jazz, Spanish, and classically influenced guitar magic on top of a spicy foundation of Afro-Cuban rhythms, including güagüanco, güajira, danzón, cha cha, and mambo. Although Towns' exotic, passionate, and often mystical-sounding guitar work is the thread which permeates through the album, he steps aside at times to afford plenty of spotlight to the letter-perfect flute of Hubert Laws, the burning abandon of pianist Rainel Pino (who came out of the same school in Havana that produced other Cuban monsters like Arturo Sandoval and Gonzalo Rubalcaba), and hot timbale and conga solos by Nestor Vidal (from Colombia), and Venezuelan Jorge Orta.

Guitar virtuoso Mark Towns explores the hot, cool, and romantic sides of Flamenco flavored Latin Jazz on his debut release from 2000. With guest appearances by saxophonist Kirk Whalum and flute legend Hubert Laws, "Flamenco Jazz Latino" is powered by the hot Afro-Caribbean percussion section of Douglas Guevarra and Jorge "Cro Cro" Orta (both formerly with Grupo Niche), and the fiery sensitivity of Cuban pianist Rainel Pino. Fans of Ottmar Liebert, Gipsy Kings, and Strunz & Farah will love this record.

Music critic Rick Mitchell (Houston Chronicle, Jazziz) says "Flamenco Jazz Latino" is one of those rare albums that works in all kinds of settings, from relaxing late night background music to cranked-up party jam. But when you're ready to sit down and really listen, the musicianship will pull you under its spell."
